Joint statement supporting ambitious FP10 to boost Europe’s competitiveness

Policy papers 04 Jul 2024
APPLiA joins 109 other European industry associations representing key European RD&I stakeholders, as signatory of a Joint statement for an ambitious FP10. The collective call aims to increase the current budget for the upcoming European Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, emphasising the need to pan-European collaborative research, development, and innovation (RD&I) in order to boost Europe’s long-term competitiveness.

"As the global technology race accelerates, it's crucial for the European Union to increase its Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) investments, especially targeting the private sector. Current investment levels aren't enough to fully harness Europe's scientific and technological capabilities, which could jeopardise the region's future economic and technological leadership." - said Paolo Falcioni, APPLiA Director General.

Public RD&I investments through the EU Framework Programme are crucial in addressing market failures and stimulating private sector investments by reducing associated risks. We believe that pooling resources and expertise through this programme is essential for tackling complex challenges collectively, accelerating technology maturation and innovation, and enhancing the EU’s position in innovation on the global market.

We, at APPLiA, are ready to further discuss the design of FP10 with the EU Institutions. To remain a model of economic and social prosperity, Europe needs to invest in RD&I, foster collaboration, drive technology maturation, and innovation, assert its leadership in key technological domains, as well as pave the way for a prosperous and sustainable future.
