APPLiA Proposals for Regulatory Burden Reduction

Policy papers 23 Feb 2026
Reducing unnecessary regulatory burden is essential to support Europe’s industrial base, enable innovation, and ensure that EU legislation delivers its objectives in practice. For the home appliance sector, a predictable, coherent and workable regulatory framework is key to safeguarding competitiveness while advancing sustainability and consumer protection goals.

Through this contribution, APPLiA identifies concrete areas across energy, digital and environmental legislation where regulatory burden can be reduced without weakening policy ambition. Drawing on practical implementation experience, our proposals focus on improving alignment between legislative instruments, streamlining reporting and information requirements, and ensuring clearer allocation of responsibilities across the value chain.

By streamlining reporting obligations, clarifying responsibilities along the value chain, and ensuring better alignment between legislative instruments, the EU can strengthen both regulatory effectiveness and industrial competitiveness.
